Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to confirm that their submission complies with all of the following items. Submissions that do not follow these guidelines may be returned for correction.

  • The manuscript is not under consideration by another journal. Disclose any related publication, overlapping material or preprint in your cover letter and Open Science Compliance Form.
  • The manuscript is prepared in English in Microsoft Word format. Upload a DOCX or PDF, with author names and identifying information removed from the review manuscript.
  • References are numbered in citation order, checked for accuracy, and include DOI links or URLs where available.
  • The text is in 12-point Times New Roman with 1.5 line spacing and numbered pages. Tables, figures and legends are numbered and cited in the text.
  • The submission follows the stylistic and bibliographic requirements in the Instructions for Authors.
  • All authors have approved the manuscript. A separate title page, signed cover letter and copyright form signed by all authors are ready to upload.
  • Funding, competing interests, author contributions, ethics approval or waiver, consent and any AI assistance are disclosed. Include the relevant reporting checklist and permissions for reused material.

Author Guidelines

Brazilian Journal of Cardiovascular Surgery (BJCVS) is an international, peer-reviewed, open access journal covering cardiovascular surgery and related disciplines. Authors should ensure that their work fits the journal’s aims and scope before submitting.

The journal accepts Original Articles, Review Articles, Brief Communications, How I Do It, Multimedia, Letters to the Editor, Editorials and Guidelines. Select the appropriate article type in the submission form and follow the full author instructions.

Authors are responsible for the accuracy, originality and integrity of the work. Every listed author must approve the final manuscript and accept responsibility for their contribution. Identify the corresponding author and provide current contact details.

Manuscript Submission

Brazilian Journal of Cardiovascular Surgery accepts manuscripts through the online submission portal.

Registration and login are required to submit manuscripts online and to check the status of current submissions.

  1. Manuscript details. Enter the title, article type, author names and affiliations, abstract and keywords.
  2. Files. Upload the blinded manuscript. Add the separate title page, signed cover letter and signed copyright form under Supporting files, together with any required supporting material.
  3. Message and confirmation. Add any additional message to the editor, confirm the declarations, and submit. Keep the page open until your manuscript reference number appears.

Use your author dashboard to read editorial messages, follow review progress, upload corrections before review or after feedback, and send supporting documents or messages at any time during review.

Preparation of the Manuscript

Title page

Prepare a separate title page with the manuscript title, a concise running title, and each author’s full name, academic degree, affiliation, email address and ORCID. Include the corresponding author’s postal address and telephone number. Check that the author order matches the online submission.

Blinded manuscript

Remove author names, affiliations and identifying acknowledgements from the file used for review, including headers, footers and document properties. Use 12-point Times New Roman text with 1.5 line spacing on A4 pages and 2.5 cm margins. Define abbreviations at first use.

Abstract and keywords

For original research, provide a structured abstract of up to 250 words covering Introduction, Methods, Results and Conclusion, followed by three to five English descriptors from MeSH or DeCS. Ensure the abstract and keywords entered online match the manuscript.

Main text

Organize original research into Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion and Conclusion. Explain participant or material selection, procedures, statistical methods and software. Present the findings clearly, relate them to relevant research, and discuss the study’s limitations. Use an appropriate structure for other article types.

Tables, figures and references

Number tables and figures consecutively, refer to them in the text, and provide clear titles and legends. Explain abbreviations and units. Include figure material in a supporting PDF or DOCX for this portal. Obtain permission for copyrighted material and protect patient identities.

Number references in the order they are first cited and follow biomedical reference conventions. Check author names, article titles, journal details, year, volume, pages and DOI information against the original sources.

Ethics and Author Declarations

Include the name of the ethics committee, approval reference and date where applicable, or explain an applicable waiver or why approval was not required. State how informed consent was obtained. Obtain appropriate consent for publication of identifiable patient information or images.

Provide funding and competing-interest statements, author contributions and any relevant acknowledgements. Disclose AI assistance and ensure that authors take responsibility for all submitted content. Do not include identifying information in the blinded review file.

Supply the reporting checklist appropriate to the study, such as CONSORT for randomized trials, STROBE for observational studies, PRISMA for systematic reviews or CARE for case reports. See the journal’s publication ethics policy.

Review, Revisions and Fees

The editorial team screens submissions and records review comments and decisions in the author portal. Open your existing submission to upload a corrected manuscript before review starts or a revised manuscript after receiving feedback. Supporting documents and messages can be sent separately, and previous files remain in the history. Include a point-by-point response when addressing review comments. Read the peer review policy for more information.

BJCVS does not charge fees for submitting, reviewing, publishing, distributing or downloading articles. Read the publication fee policy.

Privacy Statement

Names, email addresses and submission details are used to manage author accounts, manuscript processing, editorial correspondence and publication.
